Ayurveda Therapy

Ayurveda, which originated in ancient India more than 5,000 years ago, is probably the world’s oldest system of natural medicine. The term Ayurveda is derived from the Sankrit words of ayur = life/longevity and veda = wisdom/science (Ayurveda = Science of life). Ayurveda is based on the idea that good health depends on the balance between mind, body, and spirit.

According to Ayurvedic theory, everything (including the human body) is made of a combination of five elements: air, water, fire, earth, and space. These elements combine in the body to form three energies or life forces, called doshas: vata, kapha, and pitta. We are all born with our own particular balance of doshas, however, we generally have a predominance of one or two of the doshas. When our doshas are in balance, we maintain our health and feel well. An imbalanced dosha is believed to interrupt the natural flow of vital energy, or prana, which leads to a lack of well-being/illness.

Ayurveda therapies are used to cleanse, detox and bring balance to the person. Therapies are often relaxing and rejuvenating experiences while also having many health benefits.

Ayurvedic Treatments

Nasya

Nasya is a classic ayurveda treatment indicated for allergies, sinusitis, rhinitis, pre-mature aging/wrinkles, migraines/headaches, facial pain/paralysis, eye and ear problems and many more conditions that affect our head. A relaxing face massage is first administered followed by a face steam.

Drops of medicated oil are then applied to the nasal passages. This treatment is a great treatment to prevent recurrent sinus infections.

4 - 6 treatments are recommended to maximise benefits of Nasya

Karna Purana can offer relief from insomnia, tinnitus, ringing in the ears, hearing loss, recurrent ear infections, ear ache, swimmers ear, headaches, anxiety, worry/stress.

Shiro-Abhyanga

Ayurvedic Head Massage. This oil massage focuses on the head and also includes the neck, shoulders and arms. According to the ancient system of Ayurveda, the head area holds great healing potential. Through a variety of different techniques, the massage works to release any blocked channels in the body that may be manifesting itself as disease or injury.

Shiro-Abhyanga has the potential to unblock energy channels, increase metabolism, improve hair and scalp conditions, increase circulation, release endorphins, relieve build up tension (headaches/migraines) and boost overall immunity and energy levels.

Shiro-Pad Abhyanga

Ayurvedic Head and Foot Massage. This treatment starts with a foot massage, followed by a herbal foot bath. Whilst the feet are soaking in the bath, the head is massaged. This is a very relaxing and soothing treatment.

The main benefits of Shiro-pad Abhyanga are the same as for Shiro - Abhyanga. The combination of the foot massage, foot bath and head massage makes for an even more relaxing and soothing treatment though.

Ubtan

Ayurvedic facial. During this treatment, the face is first cleansed and gently massaged with warm oil. This is followed by a facial steam before the Ubtan paste is applied to the face and left to dry.  Ubtans are pastes made with ground chickpea flour, herbs, spices, oils and water.

An Ubtan treatment deeply cleanses the skin, removes access oil, hydrates, conditions and rejuvenates the skin.
